Brighton Star Danny Welbeck Gives Honest Verdict on Former Club Manchester United’s New Era Under Amorim
Former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has opened up about his former club’s impressive transformation under Ruben Amorim, following Brighton’s narrow 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The 33-year-old striker, who began his professional career at United, admitted the loss was “gutting” for Brighton but praised the Red Devils’ renewed energy and structure since Amorim’s arrival.
“It’s tough to take because we played well for large parts,” Welbeck told reporters after the match. “But you have to give credit where it’s due — United look like a different team. They’re organized, aggressive, and full of confidence. You can see Amorim’s influence all over their style.”
Manchester United came from behind to secure the win, extending their unbeaten run under Amorim. The Portuguese coach, known for his tactical discipline and high-pressing philosophy, has brought a sense of identity and purpose back to the squad — something Welbeck acknowledged with respect.
“From the sidelines, you can see they’re all pulling in the same direction,” he said. “That connection between players and fans seems to be back. As someone who came through their system, it’s good to see them doing well again.”
Welbeck’s Brighton had taken an early lead through a well-worked move but failed to maintain control as United’s intensity grew in the second half. Despite the defeat, the forward remains optimistic about his team’s season.
“We’ll take the positives. It’s a long campaign, and we’ve got the quality to bounce back,” Welbeck added confidently.
With Amorim’s Manchester United finding momentum and Brighton showing flashes of their best football, both sides will be looking to build on their performances as the Premier League race heats up.
