Heavy Rainfall to Persist Across These States Till October 18, IMD Warns
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continued heavy rainfall over several parts of the country till October 18, as monsoon activity remains strong in multiple regions. The weather agency has advised citizens and authorities to stay alert, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
According to the latest forecast, states in the southern, eastern, and northeastern regions are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days. The IMD has also issued yellow and orange alerts for certain districts where intense showers are expected.
States Likely to Witness Heavy Rainfall
- Kerala and Tamil Nadu: Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, particularly in coastal and hilly areas.
- Karnataka: Heavy rain predicted in south interior and coastal regions, including Bengaluru and Mangaluru.
- Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall expected in isolated parts.
- Odisha and West Bengal: Moderate to heavy rain likely due to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal.
- Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh: Continuous rainfall expected in the northeastern belt, with a risk of localized flooding.
IMD Advisory
The IMD has urged residents in affected areas to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated through local weather bulletins. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea due to rough sea conditions and strong winds.
Authorities in several states have been asked to remain on alert for possible waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and landslides in vulnerable zones.
When Will Conditions Improve?
Meteorologists suggest that rainfall activity is likely to subside gradually after October 18, as the monsoon system weakens and moves eastward. However, intermittent showers may continue in parts of the South and Northeast.
With the extended spell of rain, citizens are advised to stay weather-aware, take safety precautions, and follow updates from local authorities until conditions stabilize.
